Steven Gayle

Steven Gayle, PTP, Senior Technical Advisor

Steven Gayle is the Principal of Gayle Consult, LLC. He has a national reputation for his deep knowledge of metropolitan transportation planning, having spent the past thirty years with the Binghamton Metropolitan Transportation Study. For twenty-five years, he served as Executive Director, participating in all aspects of metropolitan transportation planning, including the long range regional transportation plan, the transportation improvement program, and the unified planning work program. He was the principal author of the BMTS long-range plan Transportation Tomorrow 2030 ~Placemaking for Prosperity, which received the USDOT Planning Excellence Award as an early successful initiative in scenario planning. His more recent work explores the incorporation of sustainability into MPO plans.

 Mr. Gayle has authored more than twenty journal articles and authored peer-reviewed chapters of the Institute of Transportation Engineers Transportation Planning Handbook, 2nd  and 3rd editions. He actively participates in work of the Transportation Research Board and the Strategic Highway Research Program 2 in the area of incorporating transportation system operations and performance measurement into transportation planning practice. He holds a Masters in Regional Planning from Syracuse University and a BA in natural sciences from the University of Pennsylvania.
