Background

A mile-long stretch of NH 12A in West Lebanon, New Hampshire off of I-89 Exit 20 serves as a major shopping locale for the region The 8-signal corridor is home to stores such as Wal-Mart, K-Mart, Home Depot, Staples, BJs Warehouse Club, JCPenney, Kohl’s, three grocery stores, and several popular restaurants. In conjunction with the construction of the Home Depot at the south end of the corridor, an updated coordinated signal timing plan was developed by Resource Systems Group. Of primary concern were minimizing extensive queues along the I-89 ramps and servicing the large demand at the northbound on ramp.

Project Scope

•  Developed weekday PM and Saturday midday peak hour analysis volumes

•  Utilized microsimulation software to estimate delay and queue lengths under various cycle-split-offset combinations during the AM and PM peak periods

•  Developed traffic signal design plan for new signalized intersection of NH 12A and the Home Depot Driveway including new mast arms, signals, detection, and conduits to NHDOT specifications.

•  Coordinated with signal contractor on hardware requirements and installation.
