TCRP H-37: Characteristics of Premium Transit Services that Affect Mode Choice
Client: National Academies, Transit Cooperative Research Program
- RSG is conducting research to describe and quantify for practical use the most important premium transit service attributes and factors that influence individual’s choice of travel mode
- Using advanced survey and conjoint modeling techniques to measure the relative importance of various non-traditional transit service attributes (e.g. convenience, comfort, safety, reliability) along with more traditionally understand attributes (e.g. time, transfers and cost)
- Quantifying the importance of awareness and consideration of available transit modes in the mode choice making process
- Advising FTA and practitioners as to data collection, mode choice model functional forms and parameter relationships so that premium transit services can be better distinguished and represented in long-range forecasts
