Wood-Fired Boiler Permitting

Client: Richmond Middle School, Hanover, NH

  • Estimated short-term (hourly to daily) and long-term (annual) emissions of criteria and odiferous air pollutants from wood chip combustion in the boiler
  • Developed a computer-based air pollutant dispersion model to estimate air pollutant concentrations at air exchange locations on the building and at ground locations near the building
  • Used air dispersion models to develop 3D models of buildings and stack
  • Compared model-predicted results with applicable federal standards and known odor thresholds to determine whether the stack location and height would provide sufficient dispersion of air pollutants
  • Identified a stack height for the agreed-upon stack location that would have the least possible esthetic impact while also protecting the middle school from stack emissions fumigation
